Mega Millions® began on August 31, 1996 and was originally called, "The Big Game". The original states to sell Mega Millions® were Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia.
Rhode Island joined Mega Millions® Megaplier® on January 31, 2010.
Mega Millions® has become one of the most popular Lottery games due to its extremely high jackpots. A record jackpot of $390 million was won on March 6, 2007.
Jackpots start at $12 million and continue to grow until someone wins. The Megaplier® gives players an extra chance to win $1,000,000 by multiplying non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, or 4.
Drawings are on Tuesday and Friday at 11pm. Mega Millions® Megaplier® tickets may be purchased until 9:50 pm on drawing nights.
Pick Your Numbers: Each play slip has five boards (Play A-E). Each board is a separate play. You may play up to five sets of numbers on one play slip. Choose five (5) numbers, ranging from 1 to 56, from the upper area of the play slip for each board played. Each board costs $1 without the Megaplier® option or $2 with the Megaplier® option.
Mega Ball Number: Select one (1) Mega Ball number ranging from 1 to 46 in the lower yellow play area for each board played.
Quick Pick: Mark the two "QP" boxes, and the computer will draw a series of six (6) numbers for your wager. Or mark the "QP" for the first five (5) numbers and choose your own Mega Ball number, or select "QP" for the Mega Ball number and choose the first five (5) numbers yourself.
Megaplier®: Multiply your non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, or 4 with the Megaplier® option. Check the "YES" box in the yellow Megaplier® box on the play slip to add the Megaplier®. The Megaplier® option doubles the ticket price.
Multi Draw: The same numbers for more than one drawing may be played by marking the appropriate "MULTI DRAW" box for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 26 consecutive drawings.
Verify: Before submitting your play slip, make sure the numbers you have chosen are the ones you want. Mega Millions® Megaplier® tickets cannot be cancelled after they are processed by the Retailer.
Be sure to sign your ticket upon purchase. Prizes of $599 or less can be claimed at any Rhode Island Lottery retailer. Prizes over $599 must be claimed at Lottery Headquarters, 1425 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, Rhode Island 02920. All prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing date. Jackpot winners can decide on cash or annuity payment within 60 days after becoming entitled to the prize. Annuity payments are made over 26 years.
