$20,000 Surprise Win
$10,000 PowerBall® Ticket Claimed by Group
A woman from Providence has claimed $20,000 from playing the "$1,000,000 Scratch" Instant Ticket. It was a Christmas gift from her father, which she opted to use as a bookmark in her cookbook and forgot to scratch it! Now, a month later, she was looking for a recipe and found the ticket. She couldn't believe she won that much and plans to buy a new car, a trip for her sons to Portugal and put the rest in the bank. She purchased the ticket at Sam's Food Store, 1700 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.
Shortly after the woman claimed the $20,000 prize, a group of ten co-workers found out they won $10,000 from the PowerBall® drawing on January 25. They actually thought they didn't win until one of the group members decided to double check. The money will be used to help the group in a number of different ways: a new hot water heater, new mattresses, a wedding, a car, house repairs, as well as gifts to children and grandchildren. The ticket was purchased at JR Sav On Liquors, 350 Benefit St., Pawtucket.
Tonight's estimated PowerBall® jackpot is $171 million.
