Wednesday’s PowerBall® Jackpot Increased to a Quarter Billion Dollars Plus $50,000 Prize Claimed from Saturday’s Drawing
Strong PowerBall® sales have pushed the estimated jackpot up to a whopping $250 million, making it the 10th largest PowerBall® jackpot ever won if it gets hit tomorrow night. There have been 15 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner since the current run started on July 1, 2009. If the jackpot gets hit tomorrow night and the winner chooses the annuity option, the $250 million jackpot would be paid over 29 years in 30 installments. If the winner chooses the cash option, the lump sum payment is estimated at $124.8 million.
All players should sign the back of their tickets immediately upon purchase so no one else can wrongfully claim their prize.
In addition to the rapidly growing jackpot, the subsidiary prizes, ranging up to $200,000, have many players opting for the Power Play® feature, which for an extra $1 per wager, can multiply the prize amount to up to $1,000,000.
In addition, one of the three $50,000 winning tickets from Saturday night’s drawing was claimed by a man from Cumberland, RI. That player matched 4 numbers and the PowerBall® number for the standard payout of $10,000. However, the player made sure to purchase PowerPlay® for an extra dollar on his wager, so his $10,000 prize was multiplied by five, Saturday’s PowerPlay® number, to equal $50,000. The winner said he just started looking to buy a house, so the money came at the right time. Colbea Enterprises at 457 Benefit St., Providence, sold the winning ticket.
