Rhode Island Sells Its First Big Mega Millions® Winning Ticket
Last night’s Mega Millions® drawing produced the first big Mega Millions® winner in Rhode Island since the game launched on January 31st. A $40,000 winning ticket was sold from Atwood Xtra Mart on Atwood Avenue in Cranston. The prize has not been claimed yet.
The winning ticket matched four numbers and the Mega Ball number, for a standard payout of $10,000. The winner opted to play the Megaplier® for an extra dollar on the wager, which multiplied the $10,000 prize by four, last night’s Megaplier® number, to equal $40,000.
The first Mega Millions® ticket claimed at Rhode Island Lottery headquarters took place yesterday afternoon. Mary French of Warwick (photo attached) came in to claim a $600 prize from the February 2nd drawing. She had won the standard prize of $150, but had also played the Megaplier® which multiplied her prize by four to equal $600.
Friday’s estimated Mega Millions® jackpot is $44 million.
Mega Millions® Megaplier® went on sale in Rhode Island on January 31st. Last night was the third drawing in Rhode Island. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 p.m. For more information on Mega Millions® and the Megaplier®, click here.
