Million Dollar Raffle Game Winning Ticket Claimed

The $1,000,000 top prize winner for the Rhode Island Lottery’s Million Dollar Raffle Game was claimed this morning by Susan McKenna of North Providence.  She came to the Lottery Headquarters with her father, who actually bought tickets as Christmas gifts for Susan and her other family members.  The winning number was 0 8 7 0 8 5 sold from West Warwick Shell at 6 Providence St., West Warwick. 

The 27-year-old winner is in nursing school, so the money will go to paying off student loans and covering the expenses for the remainder of her schooling.  She has another year and a half left of her program and then hopes to get her master’s degree.  In addition, she wants to share the money with her family and then invest the rest.

It was Susan’s mother who called to tell her to check her tickets because she realized the other tickets they had were numbers right around the winning ticket number.  Susan was on her way to work, so she had to call her boyfriend to tell him to check the ticket.  Both of them were in disbelief that she won when he read her the number and she replied that she just won a million dollars.  Even at the Lottery when she was handed her check, Susan still couldn’t believe she actually won and said she’d never won anything before in her life.

Also, new this year, all non-winning Million Dollar Raffle tickets can be mailed to the Rhode Island Lottery for a 2nd Chance Extravaganza on February 4th, where every selected participant will walk away with a prize and one person will have the chance to win $5,000, $10,000, $100,000 or $1,000,000.  The entry deadline is January 21st.
