$40,000 Mega Millions® Megaplier® Ticket Claimed

The $40,000 winning Mega Millions® Megaplier® ticket from the January 4 drawing was claimed by a woman from Newport.  The winner had been visiting her sister in Florida, while the winning ticket was sitting in her house in Rhode Island waiting to be checked.  

The winning ticket was purchased from Cumberland Farms on Broadway in Newport when the winner was out running errands with her brother.  The winner plans on giving her brother some of the winnings since they bought the tickets together, but she also wants to use some of the money to pay bills and visit her other brother in Germany. As excited as she was to win, she was also a little sad that her husband, who was an avid lottery player, passed away a year and a half ago and couldn’t share in the win.

The winning ticket matched four numbers and the Mega Ball number, for a standard payout of $10,000.  She purchased the Megaplier® feature for an extra dollar on the wager, which multiplied the $10,000 prize by four, the Megaplier® number for that drawing, to equal $40,000. 

Tonight’s estimated jackpot is at $40 million.
