$425 Million Record-Breaking PowerBall® Jackpot $10,000 PowerBall® Winner in Rhode Island
Wednesday's record $425 million PowerBall® jackpot is likely to get even bigger if sales continue to rise rapidly before the drawing. The previous top PowerBall® jackpot, $365 million, was claimed by eight employees of a Nebraska meat-packing plant in 2006. This year, Rhode Island had two PowerBall® jackpot winners in a row, a $336 million winner and a $60 million winner. If the $425 jackpot is hit, and the winner chooses the cash option, the lump sum payment would be a record $278.3 million, the highest cash jackpot ever for PowerBall®.
Saturday's $325 million PowerBall® drawing resulted in a $10,000 winning ticket sold in Rhode Island. The ticket matched four numbers and the PowerBall® number, winning the standard payout of $10,000. The winner did not purchase the Power Play® feature for an additional dollar on the wager. If the player had opted for Power Play®, the $10,000 prize would have been increased to $40,000.
The winning ticket was purchased from Colbea Enterprises at 1315 Park Ave., Cranston. The $10,000 prize has yet to be claimed.
