Rhode Island was one of the founding members of the Multi-State Lottery Association, which established the Lotto America game in 1987. This multi-state game became Powerball® in 1992. The first Powerball® drawing on April 22, 1992 had 15 participating lotteries: Delaware, Iowa, Idaho, Hoosier (Indiana), Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Washington DC, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Powerball® Power Play® has become one of the most popular Lottery games due to its extremely high jackpots. The highest jackpot amount to date was $1.5 billion on January 13, 2016, with winning tickets sold in Florida, Tennessee, and California.
Jackpots grow each drawing until someone wins. Also, players can increase their chances of becoming a multi-millionaire by playing Power Play®. Power Play® increases all non-jackpot prizes. The $1,000,000 prize for matching 5/5 white balls will increase to $2,000,000 when you purchase Power Play®! See Odds & Prizes
Drawings are at 10:59 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays and aired locally on WPRI-TV 12.
Powerball® Power Play® tickets may be purchased at any time, but only until 9:50 p.m. on drawing nights.
